RSV SCARE!!

Early Friday morning I took Kade into the doctor because I knew he was sick. Little did I know how sick he was. The doctor saw me right away and when he found out what Kade's oxygen levels were, he had to call 911 and an amulance took Kade and I to the emergency room with Justin following right behind. He was admitted for difficulty breathing and not getting enough oxygen. After an X-ray and some other tests we came to find out that this poor little man has RSV (a respitory virus) and pneumonia! His oxygen levels should be between 95-100 and his was in the low 80's, sometimes the low 70's and one time hitting 50!! He was panting so hard trying to breathe and his lungs were retracting very badly. Because Kade is so small and only 9 weeks old this is very dangerous. After we spent the day in the ER they sent us up to the Pediatrics ICU where we were able to get somewhat comfortable. The nurses were awesome and we felt that he was in good hands. We were very scared for a while, especially since when we first got to the ER he was super pale and the area around his mouth was tinting blue. We stayed at the hospital from Friday morning until Sunday. On Sunday his oxygen levels were doing good so they released us. He is still sick, but getting better. I just feel sorry for my poor little baby:( Since what he has is a virus it can not be fought with anti-biotics, we just have to wait it out which could take a month or more before he is completely healthy. You gotta love sicknesses! Thank goodness he is OK because we were very scared for a while. Oh Yeah! While I was already crying in the doctor's office waiting for the ambulance, the doctor tells me that when an infant breathes really fast for so long they eventually stop breathing because their small bodies can't take it and they eventually give up....gee..thanks Doc for delivering great news while I was already bawling my eyes out. Did I not look worried enough?

i am glad he is doing better. when infants are sick it is always scary, because they can't tell you that they can't breath. On the other hand, I can not believe how chunky that he is! compared to your others, he seems to be more stocky. He is extremely cute.

That is so horrible!! There is nothing worse than your little baby being so sick. I'm glad he's ok now. Let me know if there is anything I can do.

Well, from someone who has experienced lots of late night ER visits and stays in the hospital, nothing can be so unnerving and scary. Especially when it is a little one. Jeremy had RSV, he survived. However, he now has asthma that kicks into overdrive whenever he gets a cold. But.... I am glad to hear Kade is doing better. Poor guy and poor mom. Love you.

Poor little guy. I hope he continues to get better. I don't live very far so please call me if you need to drop the kids off. I'm serious! I hope you are getting some sleep.

That sucks. I'm glad he's feeling better. Oh, and why did you call me girl in your comment? I'm highly offended!

I am so sorry! My sisters triplets all got RSV after they were born and it was very scary. They survived and are all very healthy and active 5 year olds. I hope that Kade continues to get better every day. Much love from the Kellys.

Hi! I found your blog through the Larsen's. I don't know if you remember me from the cardio pump class or not, but we never exchanged numbers for our girls to play together. That's so scary about your little boy! I ended up having my baby early on the 12th of December. I would still love to get together some time to let our girls play!

I was kidding! I guess you can't sense sarcasm without hearing it. Don't worry, I'm not mad or offended. It's me we're talking about. I could care less.

I'm so sorry you had to go through all that!! It is just aweful to be in those situations with sick kids. I'm always worried that I'm either a paranoid mom, or if I'm looking over something serious. It's so good that you got him to the dr. when you did. Can't wait till he's well enough to go back to the gym and the park so we can hang out!

Rachel, I hope you little Kade is doing better. That is so scary, especially that young. And don't you love how sympathetic doctors can be. Justin gets so annoyed with so many of them that he works with! He is such a cute little guy!!

Oh no! I have had company in town and haven't checked your blog in awhile. How sad! Its so hard when they're sick and you can't do much to help. Max and Lucie both had RSV and are pretty recovered now....it is much much scarier when they are under 6 months though. Sorry you guys had to go through all that! I am totally feeling your pain. I'll call you tomorrow and see how you are.
