The Marathon...

Let me first say that I know I haven't updated in a long time.  There is a reason...our internet is having problems and we can't seem to figure it out.  It is SO frustrating, especially because I have so much to blog about.  Right now I am on Justin's laptop, so that is why I am able to update.  Just in case you were wondering.

Now on to the marathon.  It started off as a horrible week for me.  I got the stomach flu on Sunday and it never got better.  I hardly ate the entire week because of my lack of appetite.  I was not the only one to get sick, Kade, Kennedy, and Justin all did too, except they got better!  Well for me, by Friday (the day before the marathon) it got worse.  Instead of getting a restful sleep before running 26.2 miles I was up during the night throwing up and other stuff (I won't say what:)  I did not sleep at all to say the least.  And I am sure those in the cabin didn't either listening to me.  Anyway, even though I felt miserable I was going to run it despite the way I felt because I trained so long and hard to end up not doing it.  So I did run it, all 26.2 miles of it.  I felt HORRIBLE and it was MISERABLE and I really felt like dying but I did it and I am happy that it is over!  Justin told me I looked like death and I felt like death.  Even though I had to stop at every port of potty along the way I still made it.  Oh yeah, and it rained the ENTIRE time.  Not just drizzly rain, it poured rain and never let up.  Everybody was sopping wet and FREEZING!!!  My hands, arms, and legs were completely numb!  I was very sad that I was sick and I cried because instead of being a triumphant accomplishment it was completely miserable all around.  Thank goodness that wasn't my first marathon or I would definitely swear off marathons forever....but for now I will just swear them off for a very long time:)  Congrats to Emily, Brittany M., Brittany H., Nate H. for doing so well.  You guys were awesome and thank you Emily and Brittany for being by my side through all of that training.  I know that I couldn't have done it without you.  I am very proud of you!  Also, most importantly, thank you to my wonderful husband who stayed with me every step of the way and encouraged me to not give up.  If it wasn't for him I would have given up at mile 13 where I really wanted to.  He pushed me and inspired me to finish and I did and I am proud of both of us.  I KNOW I couldn't have done it without him.  Thank you Justin for not giving up on me and letting me give up on myself:)  That night I slept for 15 hours.  I am happy to report that I am feeling about 80% better!  I am just wondering when my appetite will return....I miss food!!!

Ew, sorry Rachel. I'm so amazed that you still did the whole marathon. I couldn't have done it on my best day, much less on one of my worst! :) I did go jogging on Saturday morning in your honor, but much, much shorter than a marathon!

Wow! Congrats on finishing! I am not sure I would have tried! I keep thinking it would be fun to run a marathon, but after that I am not so sure. :)

I think that a marathon sounds like a bad idea even when you are feeling good and the weather is nice! Congratulations on finishing!!! I am glad that you blogged - I was beginning to think that you had fallen off the face of the earth!

Rachie, Like I told you on Saturday I couldn't even dream about running a marathon. It would actually be my worst nightmare. I am so proud of you. Tell Justin that I am proud of him too for not leaving you in the dust, like some other marathoner we know :) You are both inspirational! Love you.

Wow, I'm so impressed that you still ran it! I'm surprised your body had the energy to finish after all it had been through! I was there, but I didn't end up going to the finish line because like you said, it was pouring and I didn't want to stand in the rain with two kids. Congrats! I'm sure you're so glad it's over!

Uhhg. I feel awful just imagining it. I understand wanting to race anyway and finish - after all that work and training. Most of the reward of those dang things is just saying "I did it." Congratulations!

I am proud of you for finishing. It sucks to feel crappy for an entire marathon... that was Boston for me. But I think finishing under those conditions is not only commendable but makes you some kind of super hero.
